Education Minister, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon says hurricane Melissa construction works are taking place at 56 schools across the island.
Several institutions, particularly in western parishes, suffered severe damage during the passage of the Category 5 system last year.
Among the schools impacted were the St. Elizabeth Technical High School in St. Elizabeth and the Westwood High School in Trelawny.
While providing an update on the reconstruction of schools impacted during Friday’s sitting of the Senate, Dr. Morris Dixon noted that work is to also commence at 98 other institutions.
Dr. Morris Dixon said she was accompanied by representatives from the ministry on visits to several rural schools.
