Minister of Health Dr. Christopher Tufton has called on the food industry to seek to provide better choices
This as it was outlined by the Heart Foundation that heart disease is the leading cause of death in Jamaica.
Speaking at the Heart Foundation of Jamaica’s Heart Month 2026 press launch at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel on Tuesday, Dr. Tufton highlighted that though individuals should make better decisions in what is consumed, the food industry plays a role.
Similarly to what is expected of the food industry, the Health Minister admitted that more is to be done by policy makers to nudge persons into health seeking behaviours
He pointed to the school nutrition policy as a step taken in combating unhealthy eating habits, but called for an expansion of the programme.
