Tom Tavares-Finson retires as JLP Commissioner on ECJ effective January 31
Tom Tavares-Finson, the Jamaica Labour Party’s Commissioner on the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) has announced his retirement from the position, effective January 31.
This will conclude 20 years of service for Tavares-Finson to both the Electoral Advisory Committee (EAC) and the ECJ.
Mr. Tavares-Finson says, it has been a profound honour and privilege to be entrusted with serving for an extended time at a commission which is at the centre of the nation’s democratic processes.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has expressed gratitude to Tavares-Finson for his two decades of committed and distinguished service as Jamaica Labour Party’s Commissioner on the ECJ.
Mr. Holness said Tavares-Finson has offered dependable, wise and professional counsel to the commission, which is worthy of high commendation.
He said Tavares-Finson has been a champion for democracy, fairness and integrity in the exercise of Jamaica’s electoral processes.
Dr. Holness said the nation is grateful for his impeccable and committed service to the commission, which is an institution that’s important to the good functioning of democracy.
