Pre-built container homes procured following hurricane Melissa, to start arriving next month

The Government says the pre-built container homes, which were procured to address urgent housing needs following Hurricane Melissa, should start arriving in the island next month.
The Category 5 hurricane, passed over Jamaica on October 28, 2025, leaving a trail of devastation.
Thousands of citizens, especially in Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth were left homeless.
In response, Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness noted that the National Housing Trust would procure 5,000 pre-built container homes for rapid deployment.
Information Minister, Dr. Dana Morris-Dixon, gave an update on the procurement status of the homes during Wednesday’s post-cabinet press briefing.
She said the units are expected by the end of February.
