Two former Klansman members to be main witnesses in case against Tesha Miller and 24 co-accused
Two former Klansman gang members are expected to be the main witnesses for the prosecution in the case against Tesha Miller and his 24 co-accused.
Miller is alleged to be the leader of the Klansman gang.
The trial officially commenced in the Home Circuit Court division of the Supreme Court in Kingston today.
Miller and his co-accused are facing several charges for offences under the anti-gang legislation, murder and robbery.
The lead prosecutor in delivering the opening statement, following the arraignment of the 25 accused men, said its 32 count indictment brings the 25 accused men before the court and represent 16 separate incidents committed over the span of 5 years, between August 2017 and November 2022.
He said the crown will rely on the similarity in actors or members, the similarities in modus, and the similarity in outcomes to illustrate that the 16 incidents were not isolated, but rather the effect of sustained and coordinated criminal activity.
He noted that in every organization there is structure, purpose and in a criminal organization there is no difference.
The prosecutor said it is the crown’s case that Tesha Miller is the primary leader of the criminal organization.
During the arraignment miller pleaded not guilty to leadership of a criminal organization.
The senior prosecutor said the evidence that it will lead will not only prove that Miller is the primary leader of the criminal organization but the other 24 members are part of the criminal organization and active participants.
He also urged Presiding Judge Dale Palmer to approach this case with caution and without haste.
The lead prosecutor also asked the judge not to reject the evidence that will be presented by its two main witnesses based on their backgrounds, both witnesses are serving time on other offences including murder.
Miller and all 24 co-accused pleaded not guilty to all the counts to which they have been charged.
