JLP councillors walk out of KSAMC’s monthly meeting, after Councillor Lorraine Dobson elected deputy mayor
Jamaica Labour Party councillors walked out of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation’s Monthly Council Meeting today, after Councillor of the Springfield Division, Lorraine Dobson was elected deputy mayor.
Councillor Dobson is a member of the People’s National Party.
Some JLP councillors argued that the deputy mayor should come from their party.
They also cited the Representation of the People Act, ROPA.
Councillor of the Gordon Town Division, Neville Whittaker, pointed out that the previous Deputy Mayor Delroy Williams is a member of the JLP, and the post only became vacant, because he resigned to contest the Clarendon Central seat, in the general election, last September.
He accused the PNP of not following principle.
The JLP councillors then walked out.
Councillor Dobson then took her oath as Deputy Mayor.
