Amendments to income tax act for disaster relief paid to employees being tax exempt, passed in parliament

Amendments to the income tax act, that relate to disaster relief paid to employees being tax exempt, were passed in parliament yesterday.
Following the passage of hurricane Melissa last October, many companies provided support to staff members for their personal recovery, and the government implemented a policy to guide the process.
Finance Minister Fayval Williams explained that the amendments convert the policy into a legislative framework.
Mrs. Williams noted that the amendments also allow for making disaster relief support permanently non taxable.
