JCSA says while the budget outlines measures for economic recovery and fiscal management, there’s little direct reassurance for public sector workers

The Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) says while the budget outlines measures aimed at economic recovery and fiscal management, it provides little direct reassurance to public sector workers.

The JCSA notes that thousands of public sector workers remain concerned about their economic security.

President, Techa Clarke Griffiths says, though the workers understand the difficult economic environment in which the budget has been presented there are concerns.

Mrs. Clarke Griffiths points to the application of General Consumption Tax (GCT) on motor vehicle concessions.

She says public sector workers were also impacted by the passage of hurricane Melissa last October and there is nothing in the budget about relief support for them.

She adds that issues remain regarding the new public sector compensation structure.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Clarke Griffiths says the JCSA will seek to offer recommendations to the government and remains committed to constructive engagement.
