Director General of the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) Ansord Hewitt is calling on the country’s academic institutions to help find climate resilience utility solutions.

Mr. Hewitt was speaking at the OUR’s 12th Annual Director-General’s Stakeholders’ Engagement at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston on Thursday.

The event was held under the theme, “Utility Resilience, Innovation and Readiness for Extreme Events.”

Mr. Hewitt stressed the importance of the government, utility providers, the OUR and research institutions working together to strengthen utility resilience in Jamaica.

This, in light of the devastating impacts of Hurricane Melissa last October and Hurricane Beryl in 2024.

Mr. Hewitt said building resilience in the utilities sector is not only about restoring what was lost.

He said it is also about rebuilding stronger, smarter and more adaptive systems.
