13-year-old student of a St. Ann High School charged for reportedly injuring schoolmate with a metal chair
The 13-year-old student of a St. Ann High School who was arrested after he reportedly hit a schoolmate with a metal chair at the institution last Wednesday has been charged.
The name of the child has not been released as he’s a minor.
The 12-year-old child was injured is said to be recovering well.
Police report that about 2:15 P.M., the students were at school when an argument developed.
It’s alleged that the 13-year-old used a metal chair to hit the complainant in his head causing a wound that bled.
The 12-year-old was rushed to the Alexandria Community Hospital and later taken to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital where he was treated and admitted.
This was the second incident in March, where a student was hit in the head with a chair at a school.
On march 4, 16-year-old Devonie Shearer, a grade 10 student of Ocho Rios High also in St. Ann, was wounded in a similar incident.
He later died.
Another grade 10 student, a 17-year-old, has been charged with his murder.
Speaking during a town hall meeting at the Ocho Rios High School in St. Ann last evening, Zone 2 Commander Deputy Superintendent Dalian Clarke said both matters are before the court.
He also noted that the police have been collaborating with stakeholders including the Child Protection and Family Services Agency to provide counselling to families of the victims and to prevent another occurrence.
