“The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has paid all its bills.”
That was the update given by the state-owned bus company’s Managing Director, Owen Ellington, at an event at the Caribbean Maritime University on Friday.
Mr. Ellington noted significant improvements in the company’s management, operations and output.
He also said for the first time since JUTC’s inception, the company is fully compliant with its statutory payments.
In the meantime, Mr. Ellington noted that despite a directive to reduce fares, the JUTC is seeing a surge in revenue.
He pointed out that revenue for the past week is higher than in 2024, when new buses were added to the company’s fleet.
He said there are also improvements in service quality and customer experience.
