TODSS says commuters should brace themselves for fare increase, as gas prices continue to rise
Commuters should brace themselves for a fare increase as gas prices continue to rise due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
That’s according to President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) Egerton Newman.
Mr. Newman said, the fare hike is a must as gas prices continue to go up.
He was speaking at a virtual meeting hosted by TODSS last evening.
Transport operators are still awaiting a 16 percent fare increase, the second phase of a 35 percent hike approved in October 2023.
Last month, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz acknowledged the concerns of taxi operators, about high operational costs, especially with fuel, in the wake of ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
He said the issue remains at the top of the agenda.
Minister Vaz said the matter is being discussed at Cabinet and, an update will be given soon.
