St. Thomas Eastern MP rejects claims recent flooding in Port Morant was due to heavy rains

Member of Parliament for St. Thomas Eastern, Rosemarie Shaw, has rejected claims that recent flooding in Port Morant was due to heavy rains.
Shaw was reacting to comments by Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA) Stephen Shaw.
The MP noted that while flooding in the area is not new, last Wednesday’s event was the worst ever.
She theorised that ongoing construction work on the highway worsened a situation that was already challenged due to a poor drainage system.
Ms. Shaw said blaming the weather does not address the real issue.
She has called on the NWA to review the situation urgently and fix the infrastructure.
