U.S. officials say “the worst criminals have been removed to third countries including murderers, paedophiles, rapists and drug traffickers.”

That’s according to the statement published yesterday on the United States Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS’s’) website.

The article highlights examples of some of “the worst illegal aliens” deported from the US under third-country agreements.

The agreements, one of which Jamaica is a signatory to allow persons to be deported to nations other than their country of origin.

DHS Secretary, Markwayne Mullin said those deported include persons who are “so barbaric that even their home countries won’t take them back.”

He also noted that “for far too long, illegal aliens ordered removed by a judge have avoided deportation simply because dhs had no place to send them”.

He added that “through engaging in fully legal third-country removals, the days of avoiding deportation are over.

Mullin said the U.S. “will continue to use every tool at its disposal to make America safe again”.

The DHS Secretary also stated that the Trump administration would never apologize for putting the American people first and deporting dangerous criminals from the country.”

This latest development comes amidst repeated assurances from Jamaican Government officials that the nation will not accept third-country nationals (TCNs) with criminal backgrounds.

In a release issued on September 16, the National Security Ministry said the TCNs “are not deportees.”

It explained that they were people “who entered the USA illegally and are being returned to their home countries or to other countries through the IOM’s Assisted Voluntary Return Programme”.

The ministry added that “this is a transit arrangement through which no criminal is to be sent.”

On October 13, the Government said the 22 TCNs who arrived in Jamaica were admitted as visitors after it was confirmed that they had no criminal antecedent.
