Accompong Chief, Richard Currie welcomes PM Holness’ talks on maroon sovereignty
Accompong Chief, Richard Currie has welcomed Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness’ openness to discuss further the sovereignty of the maroons.
The Accompong maroons celebrated the treaty with the British that established the community, ensuring its freedom and autonomy yesterday .
Prime Minister Dr.Andrew Holness who addressed the event stated that the Accompong maroons are a part of the Jamaican sovereignty.
Chief Currie outlined that the Prime Minister will visit the community to hold further talks on the maroon’s sovereignty
He explained that documentation is needed to concretize the distinction of the maroon people from the remaining society
Meanwhile, the maroon chief said he accepts Dr Holness’ offer to have discussion on the way to move forward.
