Court Administration Division (CAD) has advised that matters scheduled for Thursday at the Spanish Town and Old Harbour courts have been suspended.
The suspension follows the declaration of a State of Public Emergency (SOE) in St Catherine South amid an upsurge of violence. The area is also tense following Wednesday’s fatal shooting by the police of reputed leader of the Spanish Town-based One Order Gang, Othneil ‘Thickman’ Lobban in an alleged confrontation at Six Miles, St Andrew.
“The safety of court users, staff and stakeholders remains a top priority. CAD is committed to ensuring the continued administration of justice while taking necessary precautions to safeguard all individuals within the affected areas,” CAD said in a news release Thursday morning.
CAD said persons with matters scheduled for the affected courts should contact the relevant court or the CAD at 876-586-9783. It said a list of rescheduled court dates will be shared as soon as possible.
“CAD appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation during this time. We value your support as we take steps to ensure everyone’s safety,” the CAD added.
