MT LAUREL, N.J., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ — AmeriHealth New Jersey is sponsoring a physician’s medical mission to earthquake-ravaged Haiti, through “Project Haiti Heart” (www.projecthaitiheart.org), an organization that provides humanitarian and medical aid to Haiti, which has been plagued by political violence for most of its history.
The physician — Jason B. Litten, MD, brother of local AmeriHealth New Jersey executive Brian Litten — is on route to Haiti, supported by funds provided by AmeriHealth New Jersey for airfare and essential materials such as a sleeping bag, insect repellent, mosquito tents and other items.
Over the course of the ten day trip, Dr. Litten will be part of a team providing whatever medical services are required upon their arrival, joining other medical professionals from around the world who are donating their time and expertise to help Haiti at its time of great need.
”My goal is to serve in any way I can,” said Dr. Litten. “I believe that most physicians would do the same if their obligations allowed them. I’m able to go, for which I feel fortunate.”
”Naturally, we’re all touched by the tragedy in Haiti, and as part of the healthcare industry, AmeriHealth New Jersey wanted to somehow contribute to the rescue effort,” said Judith Roman, president and CEO. “When Dr. Litten volunteered to fly to Haiti this week, we saw that as an opportunity to support the rescue effort through one of our AmeriHealth ‘extended family’ members.”
