The police high command is reporting that the major anti-narcotics operation conducted by the Firearms and Narcotics
Investigation Division (FNID) in St Andrew on Wednesday, January 8, resulted in the
seizure of a substantial amount of cocaine and the arrest of a man.
A total of 122 parcel with a street value of US$500 million was seized, the police high command said in a release.
The find is said to be one of the largest drug seizures and is being compared to another raid last year August by local authorities.
A total of five people were apprehended at that time in 2024.
In this latest operation that took place at approximately 10:50 am, at an apartment complex in Charlton Court, St Andrew.
A team of police personnel acting on information, intercepted a Grey Toyota Hiace motor vehicle at the gate of the complex, which led them to an apartment where the cocaine was found.
A search of the apartment and vehicle uncovered 122 parcels of cocaine, weighing
approximately 134 kilograms (295 pounds) valued at over $500 million USD.
The accused 63-year-old Allan Patrick Constable, a property manager, was taken into custody and charged for several offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act to include:
possession of cocaine
dealing in cocaine
trafficking of cocaine
conspiracy to traffic cocaine and
possession of criminal property
The police high command said this substantial seizure is a significant blow to narcotics traffickers and sends a clear message that law enforcement agencies will continue to vigorously pursue and prosecute those involved in
illicit activities.
Last year August a 72-year-old man was identified among five persons charged in relation to the US$75 million cocaine bust, considered at the time as one of the country’s largest ever cocaine seizure.
The discovery was made, in Havendale, St Andrew.
Details of the charges were provided at the time, by the now retired, Deputy Commissioner in charge of the police's crime and security portfolio, Fitz Bailey, in a video statement on the Jamaica Constabulary Force's (JCF) Instagram page.
The five men, who are all from Kingston addresses, were charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, trafficking in cocaine, and conspiracy.
