The St Mary police are probing the killing of a farmer at his house in Iterboreale, Annotto Bay, St Mary early on Sunday.

The deceased is Renford Dean, alias ‘Scamma’. He was said to be in his 20s.

Preliminary reports are that about 1:50 am, a woman who is believed to be Dean's girlfriend, woke up to the sounds of loud explosions inside the house where they were.

She then found Dean lying with what appeared to be gunshots wound to the upper body on the bed where they were asleep.

Fearful, the woman reportedly ran from the house and hid in bushes before calling the police.

On their arrival, Dean was found lying on the bed with gunshot wounds.

After the processing of the scene, his body was removed to the morgue, pending a post-mortem examination.

The development came hours after Kevin 'Chemical' Cunningham was fatally shot by the police during an alleged armed confrontation at a candlelight vigil in Iterboreale on Friday night. Residents have denied the police's version of the incident, and staged a short-lived roadblock in the community on Saturday.

A 48-hour curfew has since been imposed in the community, which is scheduled to end at 6pm on Monday.
