Attorney says Buchanan’s move to void election results not a waste of time
Paul Buchanan’s Attorney, Hugh Wildman has defended his client’s decision to seek to have the September 3 election results for West Central St. Andrew voided, noting that it is not a waste of time.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court refused Mr. Buchanan’s application for a judicial review of the Constituted Authority’s decision in relation to the result.
Jamaica Labour Party leader, Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness claimed the seat, after defeating Mr. Buchanan who ran on a People’s National Party ticket.
In seeking to have the election results voided, Mr. Buchanan went to court claiming that there were ballot box irregularities, intimidation and voter suppression, among other issues.
He brought the matter before the Constituted Authority, which did not rule in his favour.
Mr. Buchanan then filed an application to seek judicial review of the Authority’s decision.
Supreme Court Judge Sonya Wint-Blair refused the application on Monday.
Mr. Wildman has signalled his intention to appeal the decision.
He said Mr. Bunchanan has a strong case.
Noting that some have criticised Mr. Buchanan’s decision to challenge the election result Mr. Wildman argued that it is a serious matter of public concern.
