Behind The Feathers of Hibiscus

It’s been 10 years since costume designer Tasha-Kay Wilson started her Carnival costume design journey.

Wilson started designing wire bras and used the skills overtime to become a sought-after carnival costume designer.

In 2022, she was recruited to design for the Yard Mas Carnival band, and for the past three years, she’s churned out some of the band’s most popular designs.

Nature has always inspired her – she recounted trips to the beach for respite – but for her third Yard Mas production, Wilson pulled inspiration from a popular flower, the Hibiscus, for two reasons.

She is the 2025 Campari Red Passion designer and pulls inspiration from tropical flora and fauna that includes the verdant landscapes surrounding her Kingston-based abode.

Campari has been the title sponsor for Yard Mas Carnival for three years and with their support for carnival, fashion, and the arts, they presented an opportunity to promote the culture on the streets for Carnival Sunday.
