The 2025 Jamaican Mathematical Olympiads, hosted by the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus through its Department of Mathematics, received a significant boost with a JMD$500,000 sponsorship from CIBC Caribbean.
The competition, which fosters excellence in mathematics among students across Jamaica, recently culminated in the seniors’ finals on, where 149 students demonstrated their mathematical prowess.
This year, approximately 2,500 students from 108 prep and primary schools participated in the Junior Mathematical Olympiad, while the Senior Mathematical Olympiad saw 540 students from 30 high schools competing at the national level. Forty-eight students from 13 high schools and 109 from 41 prep and primary schools will be recognized at the official awards ceremony on April 10, at the Assembly Hall, UWI Mona.
The top-performing students from these Olympiads will also have the opportunity to represent Jamaica at the Mathematical Olympiad of Central America and the Caribbean (MOCC).
During the official sponsorship presentation, Lancelot Leslie, Director, Business & Infrastructure Support at CIBC Caribbean, expressed the bank’s commitment to fostering academic excellence.
