The Meteorological Service of Jamaica is reporting that rainfall is expected to continue to affect northern parishes until mid-week.
A persistent stationary front is producing a large area of cloudiness with showers and thunderstorms across the north central Caribbean, according to a release from the Met Service on Monday.
The system has stalled just north of Jamaica, and observational data indicates that rainfall has occurred across northern parishes over the weekend and is expected to continue through to the middle of this week.
"The current forecast is for cloudy conditions with periods of showers and thunderstorms that could be heavy at times to affect sections of northern parishes until mid-week," the Met Service said.
"Furthermore, strong gusty winds are expected across northern parishes during this time due to the presence of a low-level jet stream across the north central Caribbean," it added.
Fishers and other marine interests, especially those inshore and offshore the north coast, are urged to exercise caution, as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of thundershowers and strong gusty winds.
The Met Service said it will continue to monitor the system.
