The police seized an illegal firearm and ammunition, and took two men into custody, including a suspect who is wanted by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Unit (C-TOK), during a series of coordinated operations across the St Catherine North Police Division on Sunday.
Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, head of the police division, said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to apprehend wanted men, disrupt criminal networks, and uphold law and order in the division.
The police, supported by military personnel, launched multiple raids in and around Spanish Town shortly after 8:30 am.
In St John’s Heights, police recovered an illegal firearm loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition. A man, a resident of Clarendon, was arrested in connection with that seizure.
Meanwhile, in McVickers Lane off Old Harbour Road, officers found five .380 cartridges and five 12-gauge cartridges hidden inside a chicken coop. No arrests were made in relation to that find.
A significant breakthrough came in the Lime Tree community, where a man who is wanted for alleged involvement in a criminal organisation was apprehended. The suspect had been sought by C-TOC.
Nicholson said the St Catherine North police will persist with the operations, aiming to prevent crimes and ensure the safety of residents.
