Cuthbert Flynn stresses importance of strengthened practices for reintegration of involuntary returned migrants
“A country that receives its returning nationals with only suspicion creates risk, but a country which receives them with structure creates sustainability and opportunity.”
That’s the declaration from State Minister of National Security and Peace, Juliet Cuthbert Flynn, as she stressed the importance of having strengthened practices for the reintegration of involuntary returned migrants.
Mrs. Cuthbert Flynn was speaking yesterday at the opening ceremony for the 10th Annual National Symposium of Best Practices for Social and Community Development.
The event is being hosted by the Planning Institution of Jamaica (PIOJ) and several partnering agencies.
The State Minister explained that for nearly two decades Jamaica has maintained a structured, humane, but increasingly improved response to nationals who have returned involuntarily from overseas.
She said efforts are continuing to strengthen that response.
Mrs. Cuthbert Flynn added that reintegration is not a soft social issue, but a national development imperative.
