Opposition Spokesperson on Education, Damian Crawford has renewed the call for the Government to establish a department of socialisation to tackle behavioural issues in schools.

His renewed call follows a surge in school violence.

The most recent incident took place yesterday in St. Thomas, where a Seaforth High student 14-year-old, Kayland Doyle was reportedly stabbed to death by another pupil.

That incident followed another involving Jamaica College students who were seen on video physically assaulting a schoolmate.

Commenting on the incidents, Mr. Crawford told IRIE FM News that establishing this department of socialisation immediately empowers over 40 adults to deliver coordinated supervision, interaction, and proactive problem-solving, both inside and outside the classroom.

He emphasised that there should be increased police presence on the streets during high travel periods for students, noting that this could help deter violence.

Mr. Crawford is also urging students to walk away from conflict and find other means of conflict resolution.
