Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Alfred Dawes, is criticising the Ministry of Health and Wellness for what he says is its failure to allocate sufficient resources towards breast cancer screening in Jamaica.
Dr. Dawes says the country is failing its women by not placing greater emphasis on the early detection of the disease.
He warns that without adequate screening, more women could have their breast cancer detected at advanced stages, when treatment may be more difficult.
Dr. Dawes is calling for increased investment in mammography services and expanded access to breast cancer screening across the island.

He argued that women who cannot afford the high cost of treating advanced breast cancer should also have access to screening services that could help detect the disease early.
