Disturbance by inmates at Ocho Rios lock up in St Ann brought under control
There was a disturbance involving persons in custody at the Ocho Rios Police Station in St Ann earlier today, prompting emergency assistance and a temporary security concern at the facility.
The incident occurred sometime after 1:00 P.M. when police officers responded to unrest among detainees housed in a cell.
The police say during the response, a lock on one of the cells was compromised, creating difficulty for officers to gain access.
As a result, personnel from the Jamaica Fire Brigade was called to assist with entry into the cell.
The situation was brought under control and no injury was reported.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Paul Clarke said the disturbance was linked to ongoing operations being conducted at the station this week.
He explained that these operations led to the discovery of contraband items among some individuals in custody.
