The Jamaica Medical Doctors’ Association (JMDA) has sent out a release speaking about the infrastructural challenges faced by the Bustamante Hospital for Children (BHC).
"Unfortunately, this is not an issue unique to that institution as similar issues are nearly ubiquitous in our health-care facilities," the JMDA said in the release.
"Over the years the JMDA has highlighted the widespread infrastructural and human resources deficiencies in repeated communications with the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW). Despite numerous letters and persistent efforts from the JMDA to engage the MOHA, there has been limited response to some of these critical issues that are impacting both our healthcare workers and the quality of patient care," the release stated.
"We stand in solidarity with the hard-working doctors at the Bustamante Hospital for Children (BHC) who continue to serve the nation and Caribbean tirelessly. Our clinical teams of doctors remain committed to providing the best standards of healthcare within the infrastructural environment they are provided," said the JMDA.
"The association urges the Ministry to take immediate action to resolve these ongoing and widespread infrastructural challenges. The Association stands ready to work with the Ministry for the best interests of the nation’s healthcare system and the well-being of every Jamaican," the release from JMDA stated.
