Education Minister assures key stakeholders in education will receive reports from Hurricane Melissa School Recovery Oversight Committee

Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon has assured that key stakeholders in education will receive reports from the Hurricane Melissa School Infrastructure Recovery and Resilience Oversight Committee.

It has been established as a one-year oversight mechanism to provide the Minister and the public with an independent and reliable assessment of the progress of the School Recovery Programme.

The eight-member committee will also receive and interrogate regular reports from the National Education Trust (NET) and the Ministry’s Technical Services Unit (TSU) covering project schedules, expenditure, physical progress, quality, safety, defects, risks and contractor performance.

Speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing yesterday, Dr. Morris Dixon said the Committee will also facilitate monthly briefings with stakeholder organisations, including the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, and the association of principals and vice principals.

Meanwhile, she announced that Attorney Rochelle Cameron will chair the eight-member committee.

Other members include Engineer and Chairman of the Factories Corporation of Jamaica, Lyttleton ‘Tanny’ Shirley, past Chairman of the Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches, Dr Elaine McCarthy Nunes, and Senior Policy Adviser Rayharna Wright.
