The St Mary police are probing a third fatal road crash in a span of just six days, with a 74-year-old man becoming the latest victim in a two-vehicle bang-up on the Prospect main road on Saturday.

The deceased is 74-year-old Ronald Schaefer of Tower Isle, St Mary.

Reports are that about 1:30 pm, a white Toyota Corolla, driven by Schaefer, was reportedly merging into the left lane from the soft shoulder.

However, the manoeuvre proved fatal when an oncoming white Toyota Axio slammed into the Corolla's right side.

Schaefer suffered several injuries and was rushed to the St Ann's Bay Regional Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The impact was less severe for a passenger in the Axio, who sustained only minor leg injuries and was treated and released from hospital.

It was the third motor vehicle crash to occur in St Mary last week.

On Monday, 30-year-old labourer Meravo Scott of Hinds Town, St Ann died from a three-vehicle crash on the Tower Isle main road at about 12:05 am.

The police said Scott was the driver of a white 2012 Toyota Corolla Axio motorcar that was involved in the collision. Three other persons were hospitalised.

Forty-eight hours later, an unidentified man died as a result of injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle crash along the Agualta Vale main road in St Mary early on Wednesday.

Four other persons, including a police officer who remains hospitalised, were injured in the crash that occurred at about 2:15 am.

The five men were travelling in a Toyota Mark motorcar from Kingston when the vehicle skidded on a section of the Agualta Vale main road.

The driver lost control of unit, which ran off the road, resulting in the now deceased man being flung from the vehicle and sustaining multiple injuries.
