A member of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) was among two men who were shot and killed by gunmen at a house in Free Hill, St Mary on Sunday morning.

The deceased are 48-year-old firefighter, Corporal Gary Samuels, and Barrington Clarke, both from Free Hill.

Reports are that about 1:30 am, gunmen invaded a two-storey dwelling and shot the men before fleeing the scene in a waiting motorcar.

The police were alerted and on their arrival, Samuels’ lifeless body was found on the floor in the house.

Clarke was rushed to the hospital, where he reportedly succumbed to his injuries

No motive has so far been identified for the gun attack.

Commissioner of the JFB, Stewart Beckford, told reporters that Samuels joined the brigade about 27 years ago.

Beckford said the JFB is mobilising its chaplaincy unit to provide counselling support to the team at the Port Maria Fire Station, where Samuels worked.

Samuels completed his shift at work at about 10pm on Saturday, hours before tragedy struck at the premises where he resided, along with other members of the Free Hill community.
