Freedom Street: Popcaan, Chronic Law express frustration, thrill fans

Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street Concert, held at the National Stadium on New Year’s Eve, delivered unforgettable moments, but not without controversy.

Dancehall stars Popcaan and Chronic Law, two of the event’s headline acts, expressed their frustration with logistical delays that kept them waiting for hours before taking the stage.

Popcaan, who stepped onto the stage just before 2 am, candidly addressed the situation, stating his disappointment about the prolonged wait outside the venue.

“If it wasn’t for Kartel, I wouldn’t have stayed,” he remarked, referencing Vybz Kartel, the focal point of the event.

An irritated Poppy added: “ Wah make oonu have me and Chronic Law out a door fi three hours. A wah make oonu a hold down the native them”.

The "Unruly Boss" briefly performed several of his hits before inviting Chronic Law to join him. Chronic Law, known for his bold stage presence, echoed Popcaan’s sentiments, addressing the audience with pointed remarks about the organisers.

“We deh yasso fi Vybz Kartel, Mi a talk straight, we nuh deh yah fi some white boy and some rasta boy. Scatter behave Joe behave your … self,” Chronic Law said.

At one point during his set, Chronic Law encouraged crowd interaction, asking attendees to show their excitement. However, when the response didn’t meet his expectations, he added a sharp comment that seemed to divide the audience.
