World Under-20 triple jump record holder Jaydon Hibbert of Jamaica says he feels “honoured and grateful” to be named one of three finalists for the 2024 Men’s Rising Star Award.
The other finalists include Italy’s Olympic bronze medallist Mattia Furlani and Niels Laros of the Netherlands, who placed sixth in the Olympic 1500m.
The award, presented at the World Athletics Awards 2024, recognises the top Under-20 athlete of the year.
"This is my second time being nominated for the Rising Star Award, which highlights outstanding junior athletes on the world stage. This recognition creates a pathway of hope for other young athletes, proving that they, too, can compete with the best—even among seniors," Hibbert said.
At just 19, Hibbert has made his mark in the triple jump, establishing himself as a significant force internationally. His nomination follows an impressive year, highlighted by a World Under-20-leading leap of 17.75m at the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston’s National Stadium on June 1.
Hibbert continued to impress at the Paris Olympics in August, where, despite a minor injury, he finished fourth with a jump of 17.61m, narrowly missing a medal by just 0.03 cm.
The winner of the 2024 Men’s Rising Star Award will be announced on World Athletics' platforms on December 1.
