Jamaicans are being urged to brace for increased rainfall over the next four days due to an area of disturbed weather.

According to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, unstable weather associated with a tropical wave currently across Hispaniola is expected to affect Jamaica on Tuesday.

The tropical wave is expected to merge with a developing area of low pressure southwest of Jamaica by Tuesday night, the Met Service reported on Monday.

This area of disturbed weather is expected to impact Jamaica for the remainder of the week.

"Consequently, the forecast is for cloudy conditions with periods of showers and thunderstorms which may be heavy at times, to affect sections of most parishes, especially southern parishes, beginning Tuesday afternoon through to Friday morning," the Met Service stated.

Additionally, strong gusty winds are also expected, especially across southern parishes and southern marine areas, during the period.

Fishers and other marine interests, especially those inshore and offshore the south coast, should exercise extreme caution, as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms and strong gusty winds.

The Met Service said it will continue to monitor the system.
