The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) responded to and are investigating the circumstances of three separate police fatal shooting incidents, resulting in the death of four men in St Catherine, over two days.
Two incidents occurred on December 12 and a double fatal shooting incident today, December 13.
Year to date, one hundred and seventy-six (176) persons have been shot and killed by the Security Forces, of which eight (8) have been fatally shot in December.
Three firearms were reported as recovered following the death of the four men.
Dallas Lane, Spanish Town
This incident is in relation to the fatal shooting of 23 year old, Ricardo Fisher on December 12, 2024. The police report that a team of police officers were conducting operations in the March Pen area of Spanish Town.
The officers report that they entered a yard and a man fired a weapon in their direction, and in response they fired at the man.
He was taken to the hospital for gunshot injuries, and pronounced dead. One Beretta Pistol was reported as recovered from this incident scene.
New Nursery, Spanish Town
This incident is in relation to the fatal shooting of 24 year old Kemar Smith on December 12. The police reported that they were on an operation in the area.
They allegedly entering a home and identifying themselves as police officers, when a man subsequently pointed a firearm at them. The officers returned fire in response. Smith was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
One firearm was reported as recovered from the incident.
Ewarton
This morning, December 13, an INDECOM team was dispatched, to respond and investigate the circumstances of a double fatal shooting in a housing scheme in Ewarton.
The initial reports indicate that two men were killed and one gun was recovered.
The incident scenes on December 12, were examined, processed and evidential material recovered from each incident scene were packaged.
The hands of the deceased men were swabbed for DNA testing and their bodies were photographed and sealed, pending post mortem examinations. Initial accounts of the incidents were provided by some of the concerned officers.
No body worn cameras were reported as being issued or worn during any of the incidents.
At this time, scene processing and investigative enquiries are ongoing for today’s incident in Ewarton. Additional details of the circumstances of the incident will be provided once available.
