INDECOM seeks witnesses after 40-y-o man fatally shot by cops

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is appealing for witnesses in relation to the current investigation into an incident where an off duty police fatally shot 40 year old, man.

The decease has been identified as Jermaine Richards.

The incident occurred on January 23 in the Ardenne Emirates Plaza located on Ardenne Road, Kingston 10.

Following the development INDECOM, in a release, said it was seeking the assistance of witnesses to provide photos, videos, or information available in relation to the matter.

"The information should be shared via INDECOM’s Whatsapp number (876)553-0000 or persons may visit or contact the office of the Commission at 876-968-1932 or 876-968-8875."

INDECOM in the release sought to remind the public, of the importance of independent witnesses and video recordings in the investigative process.

INDECOM further appealed to the original maker(s) of any video recordings to contact the Commission.

Family members and the general public can be assured that a thorough investigation is being conducted by INDECOM and all reasonable and necessary investigative lines of enquiry are being explored.

For 2025, INDECOM has commenced investigations into the deaths of twenty (20) persons, resulting from fatal shootings by the Security Forces.

Comparatively, in 2024, thirteen (13) persons were fatally shot by members of the Security Forces during the month of January, while in 2023 there were nine (9) such incidents.
