In an effort to boost road safety, the Island Traffic Authority has announced several initiatives it will be embarking on this Road Safety Month.

National Road Safety Month is observed annually in June.

The announcement follows two separate fatal crashes yesterday which claimed the lives of a police officer and a woman.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Manager of Public Relations and Corporate Communications Dontae Matthews outlined that the authority will be engaging the public via several campaigns.

He said this is to ensure that road users are properly informed and educated.

He called on motorists to obey the speed limit for motorcyclists to wear helmets and for pedestrians not to cross roadways where it is not safe.
