Given the number of house fires being recorded locally, the Jamaica Fire Brigade is encouraging parents and guardians to take extra precautions.
Acting Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB), Kevin Haughton says that over the summer holidays, young children should never be left alone at home or in a room where cooking, candles, or other heat sources are in use.
In relation to persons with mental health challenges, Acting Commissioner Haughton says these individuals should not be left alone at home.
Meanwhile, he provides general electrical safety tips to observe in the home to prevent house fires.
These include using approved cell phone chargers and avoiding overnight charging of these devices whenever possible.
