Jamaicans Urged to Embrace Backyard Farming Amid Poor Nutrition And Rising  Food Costs

Councillor for the Whitfield Town Division in St. Andrew, Eugene Kelly, has urged Jamaicans to embrace backyard farming, warning that poor nutrition and the rising cost of food are taking a toll on households.

He said there has been a decline in proper nutrition among young people, as well as the wider population.

He further argued that more Jamaicans need to adopt healthier eating habits by consuming more naturally grown foods.

Speaking at the annual divisional conference in Whitfield Town yesterday, the councillor also contended that rising food costs are affecting not only low-income households but middle-class families as well.

He encouraged residents to grow fruits and vegetables at home to improve food security and reduce household expenses.
