JFJ welcomes announcement by the JCF that 1000 body cameras are being deployed
Human rights group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) has welcomed the announcement by the police, that the deployment of 1000 body worn cameras is at an advanced stage and more of the devices are being procured.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) made the announcement yesterday.
The announcement followed renewed calls for the use of body-cameras by members of the security forces.
The calls intensified after several fatal shootings this year which have led to the deaths of 17 persons.
In a media release yesterday, Executive Director of JFJ Mickel Jackson said that while the announcement came later than expected she still welcomes it.
She called on the commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake to tell how many of these body cameras will be used in planned operations.
