The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says passengers travelling from Ocho Rios to Half Way Tree on route 511 are not required to pay for a number to board the bus.
The state owned bus company, is refuting claims circulating on social media after the allegation surfaced in a video posted on TikTok.
The JUTC says the person seen in the video, is not an employee or authorised representative of the company.
In a statement, the JUTC noted that fares are collected through its Electronic Fare Collection System (EFCS), with commuters required to pay only, the approved fare, using designated payment methods, including the SmartFare system where applicable.
Corporate Communications Manager, Shantole Thompson said, the company wants commuters to understand that such practices are not part of its operations.
She further encouraged commuters, to report any similar activity to the company, so that appropriate action can be taken.
The JUTC said it takes matters affecting commuters, and the integrity of its services seriously and remains committed to providing safe, reliable and fair transportation for the public.
