Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson delivered a commanding performance at the Central Hurdles, Relays, and Field Events meet at GC Foster College in Spanish Town on Saturday, clocking a personal best of 6.48 seconds (-2.1m/s) to win the men’s 60m.
Thompson shattered his previous outdoor best of 6.67 seconds, set in 2022, finishing well ahead of MVP Track Club teammates Nishion Ebanks (6.54) and Rohan Watson (6.61), who also recorded personal bests.
This marked Thompson’s first competition since his 9.79-second run at the Paris Olympics in August, where he narrowly missed gold in the 100m, losing by just five-thousandths of a second to Noah Lyles of the United States.
The 23-year-old sprinter will now focus on his indoor debut at the Astana Indoor Meet in Kazakhstan on January 25, the opening event of the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold. Among his competitors will be Tokyo Olympic 200m champion Andre De Grasse of Canada, who clocked 6.66 seconds at the same meet last year.
In the women’s 60m, Paris Olympic 100m finallist Tia Clayton also impressed, clocking a personal best of 7.14 seconds to win. Natasha Morrison finished second in 7.18, with Jonielle Smith (7.23) taking third. Serena Cole matched Smith’s time but was awarded fourth, while Tina Clayton, Tia’s twin, finished fifth in 7.32.
All five top finishers in the women’s event train at MVP Track Club, with the Clayton twins and Morrison also set to compete in Astana later this month.
