Its urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward and cooperate with the authorities noting that the safety and well-being of every student remain the highest priority.
The Education Ministry says its deeply concerned about the serious incident stating that it will provide support to the injured student, his family, and the school community, through the regional office and school level behaviour support team.
The statement says Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, has been informed of the incident and she is expressing deep concern for the student and his family as well as the inappropriate conduct of the aggressors involved.
She describes the incident as deeply disturbing stating that it has no place in schools or in the society.
The Education Minister adds that it’s ensuring that the boy receives the support he needs and that the school community is supported as well.
She states that this type of behaviour must be condemned, and disciplinary actions must be taken against the boys involved adding that they must learn from early that choices have consequences.
Dr. Morris Dixon states that immediately following the disciplinary actions, the boys must be taken through a series of behaviour-change initiatives to ensure that they will never repeat this behaviour.
She further calls on parents to get more involved in the lives of their children, adding that children must be protected from negative influences.
She says children must be taught to care and respect one another and to understand the weight of their actions.
Dr. Morris Dixon says violence among young people is a signal that cannot be ignored.
