A man was fatally shot by police on Ruthven Road in St. Andrew last evening.
The deceased has not been identified.
Reports are that at around 8 PM, a vehicle with two male occupants was travelling along the road when police stopped it for a traffic violation.
The driver complied, and the males and the vehicle were searched.
Police indicate that a firearm was allegedly found under a car seat.
Further reports are that while the weapon was being retrieved, a struggle ensued between one of the men and an officer over the gun.
The man was shot by the police and was pronounced dead at hospital.
The other man was taken into custody.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the matter.
It said 65 people have been fatally shot by members of the security forces since the start of the year.
