A man who was convicted of murdering his wife during a domestic dispute and then driving himself to a police station shortly after, was on Friday sentenced to life imprisonment in the St Catherine Circuit Court.
The convict, Peter Walters, was ordered to serve a minimum of 18 years in prison before he is eligible for parole consideration.
Walters pleaded guilty to the 2022 murder of his wife, 34-year-old Nikeisha Dacosta-Walters, a farmer of Berkshire Hall district near Linstead in St Catherine.
In handing down the sentence, High Court Judge, Justice Bertram Morrison, said the convicted man was jealous, and reacted violently during the dispute. These were among the aggravating factors which, along with the mitigating factors, were used to decide on the convict's sentence.
Reports are that about 2am on Friday, August 26, 2022, Walters and his wife reportedly got into a heated argument at their home in Berkshire Hall.
It is alleged that Walters had accused his wife of cheating on him.
Further reports are that during the argument, the now convicted man used a knife to stab his wife multiple times.
She later succumbed to her injuries.
Following the killing, Walters drove himself to the Linstead Police Station, and was subsequently arrested and later booked for the offence.
