Mayor speaking minutes after the fire that destroyed a section of Pearnel Arcade Market
Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby is to meet with vendors whose goods were destroyed by a fire at the Pearnel Charles Arcade in Kingston on Monday.
Reports are that at about 6: 00 am, people doing business in the commercial space saw smoke coming from the facility and raised an alarm.
Despite the quick response of firefighters over 90 stalls were destroyed.
More than 40 firefighters drawn from stations in the corporate area, responded to the blaze.
Fire fighters said that other than helping to extinguish the blaze the also had to maintain a presence to stop unscrupulous persons from looting from the vendors in their time of distress.
