Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development wants to be alerted if NWA contractors paying workers below minimum wage
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development, Arlene Williams, has requested that her Ministry be alerted if National Works Agency (NWA) contractors pay workers below the minimum wage.
The issue was discussed at Wednesday’s meeting of Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC).
It was raised by Committee Member, Wavell Hinds, as he questioned NWA’s Chief Executive Officer, Everton Hunter, about how contractors paid workers on the Shared Prosperity Through Accelerated Improvement (SPARK) programme.
Mr. Hunter pointed out that concerns related to wages should be handled by the Labour Ministry.
However, the Permanent Secretary noted that her Ministry wants to be alerted to such cases.
Meanwhile, Committee Member Heroy Clarke called on Member Hinds to provide evidence of the allegation so that enforcement action can be taken.
