Ministry of Labour signs MOU with Household Workers’ Union

The Ministry of Labour has formalised a strengthened partnership with the Jamaica Household Workers’ Union through the signing of a historic, Memorandum of Understanding.

The MOU expands collaboration between the ministry and the union across key areas, including labour rights training, occupational safety and health awareness, employment services, and public education initiatives. 

It also facilitates joint efforts in data sharing and national awareness campaigns aimed at improving outcomes for household workers. 

Speaking at the MOU signing, Portfolio Minister Pearnel Charles Jnr underscored the significance of the partnership and paid special tribute to longstanding leadership within the union. 

The minister reaffirmed, that the work of the union has been instrumental in advancing national recognition of domestic workers’ rights.

The agreement will remain in effect for one year, with provisions for renewal, and will be guided by a joint annual work plan to support implementation.
