Minimum wage earners are to benefit from a $1,000 increase effective June 1.

This will push the National Minimum Wage to $16,000 per 40-hour work week.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced the increase of 6.6 per cent on Thursday during his contribution to the 2025/26 Budget Debate at Gordon House.

“This latest increase to $16,000 represents an unprecedented 158 per cent increase over nine years,” the prime minister said to sustained applause from Government members.

“The cumulative inflation over that period "remains well below this rate," he added.

The minimum wage was last increased on June 1 last year when it moved to $15,000 per week from $13,000.
